About Roots Restaurant & Bar
Caribbean Restaurant in Manchester
Roots Restaurant & Bar in Manchester is tucked away, but the vibrant energy inside makes up for any lack of prominent signage. The atmosphere is lively, with a buzzing mix of chatter and Caribbean music creating a warm, welcoming feel. Looking through the photos, I noticed the space is relatively small, giving it a cozy, intimate vibe—perfect for a date night or a close-knit group gathering.
Their menu is packed with authentic Caribbean dishes, and it’s clear they focus on fresh, flavorful ingredients. I saw a photo of a perfectly plated jerk chicken that looked incredible, and they also feature a variety of stews and other traditional fare. The goat head, according to one review, is a must-try—although I admit that's not something I'd usually order! They seem to have something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned Caribbean food lover or a curious newcomer.
What makes Roots special is its unique blend of authentic food and a lively atmosphere. It's a place where you can enjoy some delicious, unfamiliar flavors in a fun, relaxed setting. I'd recommend this spot for a special occasion with friends or a romantic dinner; just be aware that previous reviews mention security concerns you might want to consider, and always be aware of your surroundings and belongings.

We were left feeling like an inconvenience for turning up at the restaurant, and were told to find our own seat. We asked for recommendations on the menu and were just shrugged at. The rice was good along with the dodo gizzards, however the rest of the meal was just plain bad. The okra was just unpleasant, the beef in it tasted boarderline rotten. The swallow was very bland. Not a great representation of the delicious African food we have had at other restaurants.
Please don’t go there with your kin, I went there with my husband on a date I was attacked by the security guards over the fact that I had a tea mug with me and I was bleeding all over, that same day another married woman and her husband were attacked too. The only thing that the owner has to say is that I was under alcohol intoxication and that I was trying to smuggle alcohol into the bar that’s the reason I was attacked by them. I’m advising anyone going there to have a camera recording like your phone or anything as such before going through the gate but I’d advise to stay away from that place for your own safety.
The waitress was very polite and gave us good recommendations. It was some of our first times trying African food and we were not disappointed. The goats head, while sounding disgusting, was the most delicious dish of them all. All the dishes we tried were unique. Very good experience, thank you.
This restaurant served some of the most flavorful meals I've ever had. The cozy atmosphere and professional service were the highlights.
The food is good and the atmosphere is amazing. This is the best Nigeria restaurant I have ever visited. Unlike many Nigeria restaurants, I really enjoy their service with relaxing music. It is devoid of the many noise and rowdiness you see in some Nigeria restaurants. I saw several English people coming to relax and enjoy nice wine. I will recommend this again and again to anyone looking for a nice place to go have a good time. Surely, there is always room for improvement. I hope the management keeps making the necessary improvement to make it a world-class place not only for Nigerians but also for all strata of people to come relax and enjoy.
