About Elijo's
Caribbean Restaurant in Manchester
Elijo's, Manchester's newest Caribbean restaurant, is tucked away on a quiet side street. The space is small but bright and welcoming, with warm lighting and colorful artwork adorning the walls. Looking through the photos online, I noticed they've managed to create a really relaxed, informal atmosphere—think cozy neighborhood spot rather than a fancy place.
Their menu is a celebration of Caribbean flavors, with a good mix of familiar favorites and some dishes I'd never seen before. They have jerk chicken, of course, but also a bunch of interesting vegetarian options and delicious-looking seafood dishes. One photo shows a perfectly plated plate of curried goat, which looked incredibly rich and flavorful; I wish I had tried it. I'd definitely recommend checking out their daily specials, which seemed to change regularly based on what's fresh.
What makes Elijo's special is its authenticity and the evident passion the owners have for their food. It's the kind of place where you could easily spend a relaxed weeknight catching up with friends or enjoy a casual date night. It's not trying to be anything it's not; the food is simple, well-cooked, and full of flavor – a perfect spot for anyone craving a taste of the Caribbean in Manchester.

Just ordered food from Elijos; chicken curry, rice and peas. No call to say they didn't have the curried chicken and rice and peas. Instead send a note to say here's stewed chicken and rice! Open the box to see no rice and some red meat stew. As a non red meat eater; I am absolutely outraged a restaurant has tried to pass on red meat as chicken for a sale. People have allergies and a restaurant has no right to dictate what you eat. I never leave a bad review as I own small businesses myself but when waiting over an hour to receive a completely different order of a different meat and when called the restaurant had an absolute battle when they tried to deny it. Management training and basic food respect needed here very sorry to say. Refund never received. Has to order from elsewhere. A lot of money down the drain. Unfortunately my Facebook post reveals on a local community forum that I'm not the only person been Fobbed off with this.
Portion sizes are absolutely shockingly tiny. Half a jerk chicken wasn’t even enough to feed one person. Spent £50 and then had to order another take away afterwards as we were still starving. The flavour of the curry goat was nice however the meat was full of fat and cut up in tiny pieces, hardly any sauce so it was dry also. Never have I ever known any Caribbean places to do such minuscule portions. Dumplings were crumbly texture and had no taste, Oh and avoid the chips at all cost. I got a tiny box half filled with soggy black potato it was absolutely disgusting 🤮
Really cute spot, with outdoor seating and a few seats indoors. The food was 5/5 - I would definitely recommend if you like African/Caribbean food - they have these really nice beignets that are made with plantain which are different but tasteful and to die for. I’ve not tried a lot of the food but I did love what I tried. And as a bonus it’s halal 👌🏽
Outstanding taste and quality. This place is an absolute hidden gem, highly recommended. We’ll be ordering here again. We had the jerk chicken box, veg and chips with one of best gravies I’ve ever had. We also had the Accras and Rice and peas which was also delicious.
Food was nice, goat curry was great, jerk chicken and chips were a little disappointing (taste was great but chicken had a few inedible bits) but would order again!
