About Umana Yana
Caribbean Restaurant in London
Umana Yana is tucked away in a London location, making it a bit of a find. It's a cozy spot, though the street outside is busy, so a takeaway might be a better option if you're sensitive to noise. The inside feels intimate and friendly, and I could imagine it being lovely for a smaller group. One reviewer mentioned that the photos online accurately portray the dishes' dryness.
Their menu focuses on Guyanese cuisine, with a variety of curries and roti prominent. One photo showed a roti that looked incredibly flaky, and several reviews mentioned the delicious, authentic flavors of their curries. However, my own experience with the lamb curry was unfortunately quite disappointing – it was dry and lacked seasoning. The rice was fine, though.
This place is best for those wanting a taste of authentic Guyanese food, particularly if you enjoy roti. The friendly service is a big plus; it's a place that's ideal for a casual meal with friends or family—provided you're not expecting super spicy food, and maybe double check that the particular dish you have your eye on is available before you head over.

I hate to leave a bad review but the food was terrible. I got two lamb currys with rice totalling to £32, which is alot of money but the good reviews swayed me. The lamb dish had alot more potato than I would have liked, the flavoruing has absolutely no spice (the staff serving did offer to douse it with hot pepper sauce, I prefer my meat to be seasoned and cooked in it) it was so bland for Caribbean food sadly. Ultimately the lamb was sooo sooo dry which I can't stress enough, it was devastating especially after paying so much, and it may as well have been beef it was that bad. The photos in the reviews practically show you how dry it was. The staff and the owner were very polite and attentive, the hospitality was 8/10. If this represents Guyanese food, I'll be sure to steer clear in future
This is a nice and cosy place. However, I think a takeaway would be more appropriate to eat at home comfortably than to eat in. The food is delicious and very tasty 😋! Nevertheless, there is too much traffic with people passing by, and the cars being too close to enjoy the food fully. The diversity of the food and drink is very nicely laid out with so many choices on display. However, before ordering, make sure that they have the main dish available. The staff was very friendly and nice.
I can only really rate this on the food and the service as I’ve only bought food to take away. The roti is amazing, the flavours in their curries is very authentic Guyanese food. The only thing I would suggest, is if you want something specific to call up and check if they have it before you make the journey. I do believe they have GF options but this would need to be checked. The restaurant is on a road that has permits so it driving it’s a hop in and hop out situation!
Love the food here. The owner is a lovely woman and very passionate about the service she provides. Never had beef curry before but it didn't disappoint.
Very affordable and great portion sizes. Lovely vegan and gluten free options. I drove an hour to try her food out after seeing her videos on Tiktok. I was not disappointed at all. Very pleasant and lovely lady selling authentic Guyanese food, 10/10. Full of love and flavour. Everything tasted fresh and nice. I look forward to coming back here soon. My new fav roti spot! Hands down the best! You must try for yourself. Delicious!
