Stepping into JB's Soul Food felt like a warm hug. The London location is small but cozy, with bright, cheerful walls and the kind of friendly buzz that makes you instantly feel at home. It's clearly a new spot, but it already has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. The space features simple, unfussy decor that lets the food be the star.
The menu is focused on Caribbean soul food, with plenty of familiar favorites alongside some interesting takes on classic dishes. They have a great selection of jerk chicken and curries; I saw one photo showing a perfectly plated plate of oxtail that looked incredibly tender and rich. I'm definitely going back to try their callaloo soup—it sounded amazing!
What makes JB's special is its genuine warmth. It's the kind of place perfect for a casual weeknight dinner with friends, a family meal, or even a solo lunch. They're not trying to be anything fancy – just serving delicious, comforting food with a smile. Came to Peckham to buy some goat meat. There was Plenty of mutton, but no goat meat, Why ?. However I had looked up West Indian takeaways before I came, and had read the reviews for this place, they were high in their praise , so I decided to come here to buy dinner, Really pleased I did, I bought some fried fish , 2.50 a portion, I bought 3 , really moist , really tasty . I also ordered a large jerk chicken meal which was delicious and huge, enough for 2 meals. In fact I’m heating up the leftovers as I critique. Add to that, The woman who served me was lovely, kind and welcoming. Highly recommend 😋
Got takeaway Ox tail and Jerk chicken - first time trying both and were delicious and great serving sizes for the cost. Great value! The service was exceptional with the owner/chef smiling, laughing, and incredibly accomodating and attentive. A great experience. Highly highly recommend! (We even went again the next day and enjoyed it back to back)
JB’s soul food has been my go-to for a few years now - super local, fast service and the owner is accommodating and friendly. We ordered over the phone for a pick up. We ordered salt fish patties, large oxtail and jerk chicken meals with rice and peas, coleslaw and plantain. The flavours were great, super generous with the portions, meat was super tender and full of flavours. Cant complain. Highly recommend!!!!!!!
Lovely owner who has a wonderful spirit. Jerk chicken was decent if a little salty. The smokiness was great! Good value for money
Banging Jerk chicken. Will be back for more soon. Coleslaw would be better if it was made in house. Soup of the day lacked spice, was like a gravy - wouldn’t get it again.
