About Cubana Restaurant Waterloo

Caribbean Restaurant in London

Walking into Cubana Restaurant Waterloo felt like stepping into a lively, dimly lit bar – think exposed brick, maybe a little worn, but with a definite energy. The photos online don't fully capture the atmosphere; it's much more casual and less polished than I expected. It's clearly a place that prioritizes drinks and a good time, which might not be for everyone.

The menu focuses on classic Cuban dishes. I had a fantastic tortilla (omelette), a hearty quimbobo (okra stew), and a simple but delicious bowl of black beans. One photo showed a perfectly plated platter of something that looked incredibly tempting; I'll have to try that next time. Everything was flavorful and generous portions. Though the price point is mid-range, it might have been a little much for the amount of food.

Cubana is perfect for a casual lunch or an informal dinner with friends who appreciate a vibrant, unpretentious atmosphere. If you’re looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, this might not be your spot – it’s more about the buzz and the company. However, if you want genuinely good Cuban food served in a fun, slightly chaotic setting, you should definitely give it a try.

It looks more like a bar than a restaurant, so I’ve never got around to visit. It turns out, they are open in the daytime, and their food is good. I had Tortilla (omlette), Quimbobo (Okra stew), and a bowl of black beans. Yes, it was probably more than I needed, but everything was delicious. The decor is bear and everything screams boozy bar. I felt out of place, but I would happily go back there for lunch when there is no loud music and drunken people.

We got seated quickly. Food was delicious! Gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the amount of food for price was a bit skewed.

We went during dancing time so we did not try their food. It was pretty dead for a Friday night. Only one more couple there when we arrived and later on a group of 5/6 arrived as well. If you’re looking for a lovely spot displaying Cuban pride and music though and don’t mind bringing your one people it’s a nice option. The bartender was great!

Our experience at **Cubano Restaurant in Waterloo** was extremely disappointing. The three of us arrived for dinner to find the restaurant completely empty, as evident in the photos and video I shared. Despite the ample space, we were refused the simple request to put two small tables together to have enough room for our food and drinks. It’s baffling that such a minor accommodation couldn’t be granted in a large, empty restaurant. Instead, we were expected to squeeze onto a tiny table that clearly wasn’t practical for our group. Feeling unwelcome and frustrated by the lack of flexibility, we chose to leave rather than endure an uncomfortable dining experience. For a restaurant with no other customers, it’s shocking how little effort was made to provide basic hospitality. I cannot recommend Cubano based on this encounter—service and guest comfort should always come first, especially when there’s no reason not to accommodate reasonable requests.

Food was good, starter we chose, 3 different humus was really tasty.. went at happy hour, so pleased with our extra drinks ! One wine was full of grunge, but staff were excellent, apologetic and quick to get a replacement one. Rest of food was tasty but not spectacular. It was quiet when we went, but I'm sure would have a great vibe when busy. Staff were very helpful and nice. Would go again..
