About Chaconia

Caribbean Restaurant in London

Chaconia is a tiny Caribbean takeaway in London, tucked away and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The atmosphere is casual and friendly – more like popping into a neighbour's for lunch than a formal dining experience. One photo showed the simple counter where the food is served, with a few small tables outside if you want to eat nearby.

The menu seems to focus on roti and curries, with a blackcurrant cake that's getting rave reviews. One photo shows a perfectly golden roti, looking plump and inviting. I'd definitely try the vegetarian roti, given the excellent feedback, and that blackcurrant cake sounds amazing. The chicken curry seems to be a bit of a gamble judging by the reviews, so maybe steer clear of that one.

What makes Chaconia special is its unpretentious charm and the personal touch of the owner, who clearly puts care and attention into her cooking. It's perfect for a quick, delicious and affordable lunch, especially if you like a bit of spice. I think people who appreciate authentic, home-style Caribbean food and don't mind a casual, takeaway-style setting would love it.

The chicken curry with pilau rice was probably the worst I have ever eaten. Rice under cooked, the chicken over cooked and the blandest spicing I have ever experienced. My partner had the same issue s, Roti had a very small amount of dahl in it. I really would not recommend this establishment for a takeaway.

Great vegetarian roti, the hot pepper sauce she puts in them is pretty amazing ( and hot!). You can't sit inside but the bar across the street lets you bring your food (and decently priced pints). She's always very attentive and will put an extra something in the roti, my last time there it was a green mango sauce. The blackcurrant cake is also a must, she'll heat it up for you ❤️

Very delicious food cooked by lovely owner herself. Good value. Only downside is that this is a takeaway place, so only very limited seating for eating there.

Gorgeous veg curries in a warm, soft roti with tamarind and kuchela. Waited for a few minutes while this was all made fresh and brought out to me. The value is incredible and the food is clearly made with so much love. Will definitely be a regular! Only note is that it would be great to eat in there one day, currently it's takeaway only :)

Ever so often, one craves that hearty, honest meal and for me, that’s Chaconia, a Trinidadian restaurant at the heart of Deptford. The simple and clean store front veils the rich and exciting flavours that belie. I ordered the chicken curry and rice and was persuasively nudged by a fellow diner to try the goat curry instead; fortunately, the most generous proprietress indulged my gustatory fancies and offered me a small side of that. It was a plate of absolute joy - both curries had distinct flavours and the meats were perfectly stewed, retaining their structure while being succulent to the bite. The rice was well flavoured and was the perfect accompaniment to those rich curries. At £5, this was an absolute steal. I’ll be back.
