About Bakers Dozen Caribbean Roots & Bakery
Caribbean Restaurant in London
Bakers Dozen Caribbean Roots & Bakery is tucked away in a London residential area – a little off the beaten path, which adds to its charm. The tiny shop is bustling; when I arrived mid-afternoon, it was packed, and a queue had formed by the time I left. It's a very casual, no-frills atmosphere, focused on getting delicious food out quickly.
Their menu is a Caribbean feast! Patties are the stars, with an incredible variety: lobster, fish, prawn, oxtail, and vegetarian options. Beyond patties, they also offer fried chicken, noodles, and other Caribbean favorites like macaroni and cheese. One photo I saw showed a perfectly golden-brown patty, its flaky crust hinting at the delicious filling within. I tried several patties myself – the lobster was a standout, though admittedly more like a spicy lobster-pumpkin mix.
What makes Bakers Dozen special is its authenticity and the sheer range of patties. It's a great spot for a quick, satisfying Caribbean lunch or dinner, perfect for grabbing takeout or a casual meal if you don't mind a wait. The friendly staff adds to the positive experience. It's not a fancy restaurant but rather a neighborhood gem that will likely please anyone who loves Caribbean food, especially those seeking a unique patty experience.

Visited today, easy to find. A couple people queuing, friendly service, patties were fresh out the oven, tried the beef and lamb. Tried the rum cake not the best I’ve tasted defo wouldn’t buy again. All I can say is these are the best patties I’ve tasted in a while, not too much filling just the right amount. Pastry is flaky and nice. Highly recommended I’m glad I followed tiktok and tried.
We like the flaky patties from this place (put into oven heated before eating them when we get home) , tried several times different flavors. First time buying A portion of Plantain which costs £2, comes with 6 pcs only. Too small quite shocking. Get and Try Only Patties. Best value.
There is an abundance of Jamaican patties in London but one should make trip to Bakers Dozen Caribbean Roots because they have all the patties under the sun from Lobster, Fish, Prawn, Vegetarians options to Oxtail!! Located in a residential area, it is off the radar from the city but expect queues and a wait before you get served. Luckily, they are well stocked so you won't be disappointed. As well as patties they have fried chicken, noodles, prawn dishes, mac and cheese so your complete Caribbean fix is right in front of you!! I got there around 16:23 and the tiny shop was filled with people and when I left around 16:40 there was a long queue outside!! Since it was a one off visit I got the lobster, prawn, fish, jerk chicken and oxtail patty! The star of the show is definitely the lobster and this is probably the only place you can get it in London and for £3.50 it would be a sin not to try. For that price, I don't expect chunks of lobsters but I found some crustacean pieces which could be red prawn or lobster but I give it the benefit of doubt that it is lobster. Overall, I found the lobster, prawn and fish very similar because the filling was mixed with pumpkin and it was very spicy and salty. The oxtail patty is also worth trying because this is the only way it is boneless and it was minced very finely, again I give it the benefit of doubt that it is oxtail. To summarize, I am glad I tried this place.
3.5 | while I enjoyed the food, this is a generous rating given the food was not hot and needed to be microwaved as an option in store. I think the biggest downside to this spot is that the patties aren’t kept in some sort of heated oven or made in batches. because of that, I opted to have the patty as is without microwave given I do not enjoy a soggy or non-crispy patty. the filling options were great. I tried the lobster, oxtail, and my vegan cousin had the plantain and rlly enjoyed it. it’s just they weren’t even warm. I also got the bbq chicken and rice and peas, and it tasted good, just again, not hot. I think once the workflow is sorted to keep the food a certain temp or have a system to make to order, they would be rlly amazing. they also might have too many menu options which could be hurting the workflow. obviously people love them because the demand is high, but maybe just take the patties home and put them in the oven yourself. wishing them the best!
Very nice and tasty food. Had Fish fritter, salt fish patty and macaroni cheese. 10 out of 10. Staff we’re welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended. Will definitely revisit again. 5 star service
Really like the concept of the variety of patty flavours available. Love the fact they are baked daily and fresh. Was really looking forward to trying the ackee and Salish patty, this was really salty and didn’t have as much flavour to it. The cheesy beef, couldn’t taste any cheese in it, not sure if the order got mixed up and was given beef but it was okay, plantain patty was nice and light, plantain was sweet, the oxtail patty, had a nice flavour but the cheesy chicken patty was good and I could taste the cheese. Love the flaky pastry. Probably will try the veg patty and reorder the cheesy chicken. Also tried the fried chicken wings, very salty unfortunately so ruined the flavour. Overall, a nice bakery. Update: cheese chicken and veg patty is so so good! Very tasty and flaky. Perfect flavour. Service however from some staff is very poor, I get you can’t expect much but for paying customers they could be more welcoming and try and read back bigger orders to customers rather than over charge or get orders wrong constantly! I think they should provide receipts so that people aren’t overcharged because this has happened to me again today and there’s no proof to show them once you leave and go home.
I got the pumpkin and lentil, vegetable and the chickpeas and lentil and chickpeas patties, cocoa bread and sorrel ginger drink. These are hands down some of the best vegan patties I have ever tried! Normally when it comes to some vegan food it lacks flavour but these were so authentic and taste real nice! Affordable prices and friendly staff! Look forward to returning soon to try more patties. Now I see why the line was out the door and down the road! They also have lunch specials which is great and hope they add a plant based lunch special soon!
