Stepping into AuthenticCaribfoods in Coventry felt a little… understated. It's a takeaway, not a flashy sit-down restaurant, so don't expect a vibrant atmosphere. The online photos showed a pretty standard takeaway setup – clean but nothing special. They seemed to be focused on getting the food out quickly, which might explain the mixed reviews I'd already seen.
The menu, as far as I could tell from their online presence, centers around traditional Caribbean dishes. They offer curry mutton, fried chicken, and dumplings, which seem to be the staples. Based on the customer feedback, I'd definitely skip the mutton; one photo showed a plate of it looking incredibly dry. The rice, judging by the comments, appears to be the only consistently reliable element of the dishes.
Honestly, based on the reviews and my own lack of a positive experience reading about it, I can't wholeheartedly recommend AuthenticCaribfoods. It might be okay if you're in a pinch and just need a quick, inexpensive Caribbean-style meal and are not too fussed about quality, but there are probably better options in Coventry for a satisfying meal. The consistently negative feedback about the meat dishes and customer service makes it a bit of a gamble.

Disappointing Experience I recently ordered from this Caribbean takeaway. Unfortunately, the mutton was dry, the fried chicken was overcooked and even the dumplings were disappointingly dry. When I called to voice my concerns, I was met with a lack of remorse and no offer of a refund or any form of compensation. This experience was truly disappointing, and I would not recommend this place based on both the food quality and the customer service. Ps they didn’t have any white rice so the rice in the image is our own
Ordered the curry mutton to take away. Incredibly dry, I couldn't finish the meal. Given the cost it was extremely disappointing, especially having waiting 20mins for it to be prepared as a takeaway order. Hopefully the chef can review the process as I don't appear to be the first with these comments.
Wish we read the reviews first before ordering, food was horrendous, mutton was dry , only thing edible was the rice. Straight in the bin
Authentic home cooked meals with a friendly air. The escovitch fish meal deal was great, but even better with the optional chilli sauce. However, I was left mildly jealous watching my partner with her curry mutton and am planning to try it next time. Carrot cake for desert was delicious as well. This isn't a speedy fast food joint so please don't expect that, it's a chilled and personable dine-in experience and totally worth the wait.
Sadly this is the worst Carribbean food I ever had. Mutton curry was like a pasta sauce no pieces of mutton, the taste was not even there.The rice and peas! well if you can call that rice and peas. The jerk chicken looks like chicken in gravy! Mac and cheese was a laugh. All I can say is cooking is not for everybody. Sorry!
