About Turtle Bay Birmingham
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Stepping into Turtle Bay Birmingham felt like a mini-vacation. The restaurant has a really relaxed, rustic vibe; it's lively but not overwhelmingly loud, and the space feels open and welcoming. From the photos I saw online, the decor looks bright and colorful, perfect for a fun night out. It definitely has that Caribbean island feel, making you forget you're actually in Birmingham!
Their menu is packed with Caribbean classics, from jerk chicken and goat curry to fish tacos and plenty of other dishes. One photo showed a perfectly plated salmon with rice and peas – it looked delicious. I'd recommend trying their cocktails, too; the reviews mentioned great deals on them. There's something for everyone, from lighter dishes to heartier fare.
Turtle Bay is perfect for a casual dinner with friends or a fun date night. The atmosphere is upbeat and the food is tasty enough to satisfy a craving for Caribbean flavors without being too fancy. It stands out from other Birmingham restaurants with its vibrant energy and its commitment to creating an authentic island experience. While some reviews mentioned inconsistent service, the good points outweigh the negative for me – and the food definitely seems worth trying out!

So when you walk in, you can definitely see people are having a nice time there. Didn't have to wait long for someone to take our orders. I chose a bogof cocktail, which was just delicious. For my meal I had salmon with rice n peas and a side of plantain. It came quite quick and was a good portion size. I mostly enjoyed it, except they gave the smallest portion of gravy. And the guy who served it to us was in a hurry and not very polite.
Food was "okay". Had the goat curry was a little let down by its overall flavour. Fish tacos were beautiful as a starter tho. The service was amazing. Guy named Alex helped us out and guided us through the menu. Amazing server!
This is my third branch of Turtle Bay. The restaurant has a rustic feel to its aesthetics. Our booking was for 6:30pm and by this time, the restaurant was already full. I ordered a mocktail but when it arrived I wasn't pleased because the cup wasn't full. Its just juice for goodness sake. I ordered jerk pit wings. It tasted ok. I've had better. I liked it because the meat fell off the bones. I wasn't happy with my goat curry. Didn't have enough sauce with the curry and there want enough goat meta pieces in there. What irked me the most was the duplicity with the pricing. My main and starter, from the standard menu came to £21.70 but when I tried to make payment, I was being quoted £26 and I wondered why. The waiter said its cause myself and colleagues had eaten from the Christmas menu. It sounded ridiculous. So just cause you slapped 'Christmas' in front of the menu, the price suddenly jumps up. There was literally no difference between the items on the standard or Christmas menu.
Going around Christmas weekend is always risky. Never know if it's going to be good service and good food. But I was impressed. Our server was spot on. And the food was great. The atmosphere was good. Not too noisy but quite busy at the same time. Drinks are always awesome. 241 after 9pm. Nice Rum runner all night long...
Alex was a great server thank you! Food was lovely too. However the cocktails are defo watered down or have no alcohol in them. How can I have 8 “alcoholic” drinks in 2 hours that have a range of rums and vodkas in but leave stone cold sober and not slightly tipsy? This isn’t the first time this has happened and it’s why it’s taken 10 years for me to come back but looks like the same tricks are still made. Won’t be back.
