About Toptaste
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Toptaste in Birmingham is a cute spot, tucked away on a quieter street. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, perfect for a casual dinner with friends or a family meal. Looking through the photos online, I noticed the restaurant has a bright and airy interior with colorful artwork, creating a cheerful, welcoming vibe.
Their menu features classic Caribbean dishes with a modern twist. They have all the favorites—jerk chicken, various stews, and flavorful rice and beans—but the photos also showed some interesting-looking seafood dishes and creative takes on traditional sides. I'd really recommend trying their oxtail stew, judging by the picture of it, it looked incredibly tender and rich.
What makes Toptaste special is its genuine warmth and delicious food. It feels like a neighborhood gem, a place where you can enjoy a home-style meal without the fuss. It's perfect for a relaxed weeknight dinner, a celebratory gathering with loved ones, or anyone who wants a taste of authentic Caribbean flavors in a friendly, comfortable setting. It's definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something different from the usual Birmingham restaurant scene.

This was the first time I've tried this place I ordered the trap box lobster tail with hake and salmon the flavors was great and the young lad that served us was very polite But I give 3 stars because the salmon, hake and the lobster tail was very dry and over cooked and the portion was really really small for £30 I was expecting a more tbh. But like I said the flavours are great so next time I will try something else.
Got the Large Fried Chicken with rice and peas. Unfortunately the box was mainly of dry rice n peas. No flavour and didn't taste fresh at all. Chicken was small aswell for a supposedly large meal but tasted nice. Customer service was a real let down. Like a person is invisible and you get served 10 to 15 minutes after you first enter the shop.
Edited my review to reflect my recent visits. Firstly this place used to be a Birmingham staple. Sadly the quality of the food and the poor service means I will never go back. Meals are 70% rice and not a reflection of authentic Caribbean food. Lastly to the owner in the wheelchair your customer service is trash and your attitude stinks. based on 4 different interactions I chose to edit my review. To see true example of what I’m talking about. Look at the way the owner responds to his poor of patrons expressing a lack of satisfaction Google reviews. No accountability or apologies just attitude, rudeness and small man syndrome. Response to the owner: as usual all unsatisfactory reviews are false😂 . it’s only disrespectful if it’s untrue. Ive based my review on many visits over several months. Instead of calling me a liar just fix up.
Nasty overpriced tastless food!! The floor is dirty inside and the place smells. I SWEAR! On my deceased father's grave, I been living in this area nearly all my life and been to many food places and this has to be the worst food place ever in the area. This place does not even deserve the 1*
Wicked champion food. If you like Caribbean cuisine made with love then check this place out. Everytime I’m in Birmingham I stop off here and buy a few extra portions to bring back to Bristol. The curry goat is a winner (Probably up there in my top 5) and similar with stew chicken. Reasonable prices. Generous portions. Great flavours
