About The Honeypot Jamaican Takeaway
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Walking into The Honeypot Jamaican Takeaway in Birmingham felt like stepping into a lively neighborhood joint. It's a casual spot, not fancy at all, but buzzing with energy. The photos online don't quite capture the warmth of the place—it's cozy and smells amazing, filled with that fragrant mix of spices you only find in Caribbean kitchens.
The menu is pretty straightforward, focusing on classic Jamaican dishes. They've got all the usual suspects—jerk chicken, curried mutton, oxtail—plus some interesting seafood options like the pepper prawns. One photo shows a perfectly plated oxtail dinner with rice and peas; it looked incredibly rich and comforting. I tried the curried mutton (tender!), and my friend raved about the pepper prawns. Portions were on the smaller side, though, so be aware of that if you have a large appetite.
The Honeypot is perfect for a quick, satisfying meal, especially if you crave authentic Jamaican food. It's ideal for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, or even grabbing takeaway for a night in. What sets it apart isn't some fancy presentation; it's the genuine flavors and friendly atmosphere. If you're looking for a high-end experience, this isn't it, but for tasty, honest Caribbean cooking in Birmingham, it's a winner.

Was recommended this place by someone, so thought we will go try it out Ordered Curried mutton, Oxtail with butter beans, Fry chicken, Jerk chicken and some pepper prawns. Each dinner is served with rice n peas or plain rice and steam vegetables Curried mutton was tasty, meat was nice n tender. Oxtail with butter beans was alright taste wise likewise the fry chicken and jerk chicken. Pepper prawns were something different but definitely to my mates liking. Saying all that, definitely think the portions were on the smaller side, compared to how much meat you get considering all the meals were medium Like I always say everyones taste buds differ and opinions are different and this is my opinion only....
The food here is absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. I was passing through and stopped for lunch and was certainly not disappointed! Will definitely be returning. Amazing service with Amazing food!
Honey Pot is the go-to spot for authentic Caribbean flavors! I ordered the oxtail dinner with rice and peas and steamed veg, and it was perfection—tender, flavorful, and generously portioned. Everything on the menu is consistently delicious, from the jerk chicken to the curry goat. Highly recommend for anyone craving quality Caribbean food!
Delicious food. Fried wings were sensational. Distinctive flavours of the curry sauces with the prawns, chicken, and mutton were delightful. Only had a bit of rice left over. We'll worth the wait at a busy time on a Sunday evening.
The small girl that serves behind the counter comes across very unfriendly, seems like she’s never been shown how to smile and clearly doesn’t know customer service which is such a shame because I really like their food but I won’t be spending my money there again. They also charge people more to have ‘meals’ of meat and fries but if you were to order a portion of meat and fries on the side it’s cheaper yet you get exactly the same amount! I made them aware of this and there was no apology given, she actually seemed to have an attitude when refunding me the £1.50 extra they tried to charge me just for calling it a ‘meal’ rather than a portion and side. In response to the owners response - since when are people only allowed to write reviews on the how the food tastes? I had a bad experience in terms of customer service, and I even mentioned it was a shame because I liked the food. Also since when does CCTV pick up the atmosphere and energy? She did not smile once, hardly spoke and barely made eye contact. I have been a few times, and she has always presented unfriendly. Did your CCTV also pick up that I had asked her how many wings come in the meal and she stated 5, yet your portion size of wings is 5, so make that make sense please. I did not ‘feel’ overcharged, I was, and there was also no communication to follow to inform us of the refund or having spoke to yourself regarding it. As a professional business you should be prepared for criticism instead of trying to make excuses for your poor customer service - your response alone says a lot. Have an even better day 🙂
