About Susieqshottie Caribbean Kitchen
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Susieqshottie Caribbean Kitchen in Birmingham is a vibrant little spot; I popped in the other day and immediately felt the warmth of the place. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. Looking through their photos online, I noticed they have a nicely decorated space with plenty of natural light — definitely looks like a place that feels welcoming.
Their menu is packed with classic Caribbean dishes, and they clearly put a lot of care into the ingredients. I saw jerk chicken and curry goat featured prominently in the online photos; the jerk chicken looked perfectly charred and juicy, sitting on a bed of rice and peas. They also have plenty of vegetarian options, which is a big plus. I’d definitely recommend trying their roti, based on what I saw!
What makes Susieqshottie special is its genuine, homey feel. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a couple of hours catching up with friends or celebrating a special occasion with family. The food, plus the atmosphere, just makes you feel happy — it's the perfect place for someone looking for authentic Caribbean flavors in a relaxed and unpretentious setting.

I have mixed reviews from here, the food seems to be hit and miss depending on what day you go. I've had curried mutton/chicken which was nice and good portions in the past then had a couple bad experiences, small portions for the money etc, but what did it for me was my coleslaw (see pic) blatantly gone off and i brought 2 of these that I had to throw away. Also had some Red Pea Soup which tasted off like it had been left out and served the next day wihout being refrigerated. if i didnt live 20 mins away i would have brought it back. It's a shame as the food has been spot on in before, not sure if staff have changed or not but it's put me off going now.
Food is nice but unfair portions. I Ordered large mutton with rice and peas. Portion size terrible as I got the same amount of mutton I would get with the regular portion. £12 spent on what was mostly rice and some steamed veg. I’ve counted and 9pieces of mutton (mostly bones).
My food was too expensive £10 for a large it wasn't worth it at all the oxtail was undercooked with raw meat I couldn't believe it absolutely not worth it second and last time even the first time ws bad
Ordered jerk chicken rice and peas with jerk sauce and dumplings, got 1 dry dumpling the little bit of chicken was all bones and dry, the rice and peas was dry, reheated and tasted of coconut, never had coconut jerk? Normally get aunt Sally or belfoot, just thought I'd try as they new, waste of money, never again
Me and my partner thought we would try this carribean shop as hasnt been open for long and is more local than our regular stop at Troy's Carribean. Paid £9.00 for a large portion of fried chicken, which was supposed to hot and was lukewarm. Very small portion for a large and very overpriced, quality not there. Love carribean food and this has just really let me down, no stew chicken gravy on top like we were told. Fries were reheated and soggy, couldnt have been done fresh as were cold by the time ive walked home (5 minutes) dumplings seem stale. Wouldn't recommend, id rather walk 20 minutes for quality food from my normal shop than go local again. 👎🏻👎🏻
