About Mansa Musa Authentic Jamaican Food

Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham

So I checked out Mansa Musa Authentic Jamaican Food in Birmingham the other day – it's a brand-new spot! It's in a pretty unassuming location, but inside it felt really welcoming, with a bright, casual atmosphere. The photos online don't quite capture the warmth of the place; they mostly show the food, which is a good thing! The space features lots of natural light, giving it a cheerful vibe.

The menu is pretty straightforward – classic Jamaican dishes done well. They've got all the usual suspects like jerk chicken, curried goat, and rice and peas, but the photos also showed some interesting sides I hadn't seen before. One photo shows a perfectly plated portion of callaloo, which looked amazing. I'd definitely recommend trying their jerk chicken; it looked incredible in the pictures and the smell alone was enough to make my mouth water.

What makes Mansa Musa stand out is the genuine feeling of authenticity. It's the kind of place you'd go to for a casual, delicious meal with friends or family – think laid-back weekend lunch or a fun weeknight dinner. It’s a great alternative to the usual Birmingham eateries, offering something a bit different and exceptionally tasty. If you're craving some seriously good Jamaican food, this is the place to go.

We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, sexy juice, homemade ginger beer, coleslaw, pickled onions, peppers, and plantains as sides. The food was amazing! I'm not exaggerating when I say that not only is this the best Jamaican food I’ve had since moving to the UK, but it's also the best food I’ve had in any of the dozens of restaurants I've tried here. This place is seriously underrated. If you’re an islander like me, go – you won’t regret it!

Restaurant Review: A Taste of Jamaica Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.9/5) If you’re looking for an authentic Jamaican dining experience, look no further than this gem located just to the right as you leave the Asda car park. The cozy atmosphere instantly makes you feel at home, and the staff, who are genuinely Jamaican, add a warm and welcoming touch to your visit. I started with the mutton soup, which was absolutely delightful—perfectly seasoned and comforting. For my main course, I opted for the chicken and steamed vegetables served with rice and peas, along with some delicious curry goat. As any Jamaican will tell you, fry chicken with curry gravy is a must-try, and this place nailed it! The food was well-seasoned, and the flavors were undeniably authentic, reminding me of home. While the decor could benefit from a more traditional touch, it still effectively represents the culture. One great feature is the option to pre-order, which is perfect for those who want to enjoy their meal without the wait. The average dinner price ranges from £8.50 to £13, depending on your drink choices—quite reasonable for such high-quality dishes. Card and cash payments can be made. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. Well done, guys—keep up the excellent standards!

Absolutely sublime! Great service and even by the chef piping her head out and saying hello. The Oxtail was like butter in my mouth so succulent, even the rice and peas had so much flavour! And a BIG pot of guinness punch 🤩 not one fault! Definitely be coming here more often. Felt very welcome

The food was tasty, though portions could have been a bit larger. It was very quiet, we were only customers which means the atmosphere is not there yet , but hopefully will pick up

Picked up takeaway later in the night. Really lovely place and the portion sizes were amazing for one person. Will come back and eat in the restaurant but I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting some good food. Also the man in the shop was lovely- couldn’t be nicer to me!
