About Island Lounge
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Island Lounge in Birmingham is tucked away in a cozy spot – I didn’t get the exact address, but the photos online show a warm, inviting interior with plenty of natural light. It feels like the kind of place where you could easily spend a relaxed evening with friends or family. The photos show colorful artwork on the walls, and the general vibe seems casual and upbeat, not overly fancy.
The menu boasts a range of classic Caribbean dishes. I saw mentions of garlic butter prawns, jerk tacos, and lamb chops in online reviews – all sound amazing! They also offer mocktails, which is a nice touch. One photo shows a perfectly plated dish of jerk chicken; it looks incredibly flavorful and juicy. Based on the reviews, it seems like a great place to try authentic Caribbean food.
What makes Island Lounge stand out is its family-run atmosphere and dedication to halal-friendly food. It's perfect for a casual dinner with friends, a family gathering, or even a celebratory meal (though maybe check recent reviews regarding service before booking a large group). If you're craving delicious, authentic Caribbean food in Birmingham, and appreciate a more personal dining experience than a large chain restaurant, Island Lounge is definitely worth checking out.

A fantastic cosy little family run business offering authentic Caribbean food. We tried their Garlic Butter Prawns, Jerk Tacos & Lamb Chops. Everything was flavoursome and unique. They have fantastic mocktails on offer too. All food is halal friendly.
If I could choose zero stars it would be my choice. I recently celebrated my sister's birthday at Island Lounge, and unfortunately, the experience was far from enjoyable. I had high expectations for a memorable evening, but the service we received was unacceptable. From the moment we arrived, we encountered a bar lady who seemed rude. Her attitude was not just unwelcoming but downright disrespectful, which set a negative tone for the entire evening. We were promised bottomless food, expecting a delightful spread for our group of 20. Instead, we waited an excessively long time for our meal, only to receive one dish that was not even up to par. When we raised our concerns about the food quality and the lack of service, the bar lady responded with snark rather than addressing our issues professionally. To make matters worse, despite the poor service we were still expected to pay a service fee. This felt completely unjustified given the circumstances. Overall, our experience at Island Lounge was disappointing, especially considering it was a celebration for my sister's birthday. I would not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a pleasant dining experience. Save your time and money for a place that values its customers and knows how to deliver good service.
Had our meal delivered. Whilst it is certainly a more expensive takeaway than your usual takeaways (as they charge the same prices as dining in, so around £80 for 4), the food is absolutely stunning. Well presented, good portions and very tasty! I have also eaten in the restaurant previously and was equally as impressed then. In my opinion, by far the best Caribbean food in the area.
I have heard good things about this restaurant and it did in fact live up to the hype. It is a local business and is clearly popular with both dine in and orders. I went on a Sunday with a group of 5 adults and 4 children. I enjoyed the starter which was the ackee cup, it is not often you can get ackee without the saltfish, but I did here and it was great. I like saltfish but some times it's nice without it. I shared a platter for the mains with jerk chicken, jerk wings, lamb chops, jerk prawns and some sides. The food was tasty, very saucy.. My only gripe was that the lamb chops were tiny. I was initially going to order lamb chops, I am glad I didn't because if they were that tiny by themselves I would have been very sad. However, the prawns were massive and extremely tasty I could have eaten a whole bowl of just those. They were the best thing on the platter. I also ordered some Mac and cheese bites, dumplings and plantain. All of which were great... The Mac and cheese bites were really good and the dumplings were big, crispy on the outside soft and fluffy in the middle. The mocktails were mediocre.. I had a tropical mojito. The pricing was decent, on average about £20- £30 per person. Unfortunately the service was a bit slow however this was due to only one staff member on what was a busy night. However she held it down and kept her composure and did the best she could. We still ate. They have vegetarian options. I would definitely reccomended visiting here, I will be going back just for the prawns alone. I think expansion might be on the table.
Authentic hidden gem , I have been back twice and even recommended to friends. Real flavours and spice not diluted. The cocktails are amazing , nice vibes perfect for having a fun night out as they offer bottomless brunches also or a birthday gathering. 10/10
I went to Island Lounge with my friend today for the first time, finally after not being able to get a table for three times. We managed to have the chance to get to dine in and try their food. We were greeted nicely and seated. The menu was clearly written with prices. Me and my friend because tried the Island Mango Burger meal that comes with chips and coleslaw. Everything tasted fresh and has a good quality taste. It was well presented. We will definitely be going back again to try something else on the menu. The venue was clean and authentic and just had a good vibe in general. Service was par excellent! Friendly atmosphere!! Can’t wait to go back, hopefully next weekend!! :) xx
