About Granny's
Caribbean Restaurant in Birmingham
Granny's, a brand-new Caribbean restaurant in Birmingham, is tucked away on a quiet side street – a real find! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with brightly colored walls and the comforting aroma of spices filling the air. Looking through the photos online, I noticed the restaurant is small but cozy, perfect for a casual get-together.
The menu is fairly concise, focusing on classic Caribbean dishes. They've got all the usual suspects – jerk chicken, curried goat, rice and peas – but also some interesting daily specials. One photo shows a perfectly plated plate of fried plantains with a vibrant, colorful jerk chicken. I’d definitely recommend trying the oxtail stew, it looked incredibly tender and flavorful.
Granny's is special because it feels genuinely homey and authentic. It's the kind of place perfect for a relaxed weeknight dinner with friends or a family celebration. If you're craving a taste of the Caribbean islands but don't want anything too fancy or touristy, Granny's is the place to go.

Food is great and reasonably priced too. Lovely lady behind counter serving. I recommend the mutton soup
I've had takeaways. When you can get it, the food seems good. Family liked it. But I think my timing must be off, unfortunately, as I usually have to wait or it's not a cooking day. Shame. Maybe I need to get the correct service days and times. Vegetarian options are available, fish too. There are a few parking bays right in front of the shop. I think it is wheelchair accessible. Other shops and traditional chip-shop, down the end of the parade. I'll go again, as I'd like to try other items on the menu.
I've been using this place since the 90"s. Same owner, (and it should be called Grandads as I only ever see him cooking n serving). Traditional Carribean fare. There always some sort of soup, absolutely love his curry mutton and oxtail dinners too! If I'm there on a Friday I'll check what fish he's prepared and always has atleast 3 fish options. He's prices are great value, excellent portion sizes, and cooked with care. If you're ever in the area pass through for lunchbor dinner, you'll be impressed. Niah, bless up!! 👏
A friend took me here for food the last time I was working in Birmingham (10 years ago). I've been sent back again and found the place by accident as it's round the corner from where I'm staying, what a great coincidence. The foods excellent, the service is super friendly. Every street corner should have a Granny's takeaway to feed the hungry souls.
Good food, very pleasant staff, good vibes Continously. Blessed Love.
