I just got back from Back A Yard Caribbean Takeaway in Birmingham, and it's a real find! It's a small, casual spot – think bright colours and a friendly atmosphere. The space feels welcoming, perfect for a quick bite or a relaxed takeout. Looking through the photos online, I noticed they've got some nice touches, like colourful artwork on the walls, keeping the place vibrant.
Their menu is packed with classic Caribbean dishes. They have jerk chicken, of course, and a really tempting-looking curry goat. One photo shows a perfectly plated plate of rice and peas alongside fried plantains, which looked incredible. I’d definitely recommend trying their patties – they looked freshly baked and golden-brown.

Always see this place as I drive past, hardly ever seen any customers in there but still wanted to try out the food as it’s the closed Caribbean takeaway. Anyway, I decided to order on Uber eats, I ordered a large curried mutton and rice. The app said the food would take around 45 minutes. My ordered actually arrived in 15 mins. The food was old. The mutton hardly had any any gravy to it and the meat was only placed over one side of the rice leaving the other half of the rice dry. The rice was undercooked, hard and dry. The meat did taste nice but it was evident that the food was old, it had just been heated in the microwave and sent with the delivery driver. Very disappointed.
Very expensive and the portions are very small. Filled the plate with rice and gave me 2 pieces of chicken. The other piece that looks like meat is just a big lump of potato like WTH, skimping on the veg. Had to wait nearly 40 mins for two plates of food because they stated they were behind on orders. Not to mention, the lady was answering calls in front of us and basically telling customers she can't deal with this and how she is busy. That was so unprofessional. The food did not taste good and it was even cold. Would not recommend . ever if you want a real jamaican restaurant with good portions and 6 to Full of Flava.
First visit today, been meaning to try for ages and opportunity arose today. 2 portions of jerk chicken and fried dumpling. Really tasted good, chicken was well jerked and moist. Would have preferred a little less sauce next time. The dumplings were flatter than I'm used to but reheated well and were decent. The young sis that served me was pleasant and prompt. Will definitely revisit.
Went to collect 4 x meals through good to go app and was met with abuse from the male chef who initially refused to give me my food because I swiped the collect option, bare in mind this was my first time using the app. Even his staff and another customer as to talk him down, I also had my 4 year old son with me at the time. Very very poor customer service
Ordered two meals from here for myself and my neighbour. Extremely pleasant service and fantastic food, large portions. Authentic, well cooked jamaican cuisine we will most definitely be back. Thankyou
